Family Prayer

1. It is customary for the Jews to observe dinner time as “Love feast”. By tradition, the members of the family would sit together, read God‘s commandments and pray before going to bed. This is what is referred to as “around the table” in the Bible.

2. Family prayer was in practice in Job‘s family as well. Do you have family prayer in your family? Both in the morning as well as in the night?

3. During family prayer, all should be encouraged to share the goodness of the Lord and their experience.

4. Let the prayer time be the time for planning the following day’s activities.

5. Mobile, telephone, Television and laptop should not be a hindrance to family prayer. They should be switched off.

6. If we do not have the habit of praying as a family, it only means that we have left our door to allow Satan to play in our family living.

7. Just as the saying goes ‘a house without prayer is a house with no roof‘, a house needs roof to give us protection not just from the hot sun and the rains but also for rest and safety. So is family prayer absolutely essential for safe well being of the family.

8. Family prayer time is the time when misunderstanding among husband and wife and children and parents get sorted out and good relationships are established.

9. A time say 8.00 or 8.30pm may be fixed for daily family prayer, a few songs may be sung, a bible portion read and the contents explained to facilitate understanding children also may be given a chance to pray.

10. Forgetting family prayer and running here and there seeking peace in the family is indeed pitiable.

11. Children of the families having regular prayer honor their parents and soon become their friends.

12. Impossibilities are made possible by family prayers.

“Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them”. Matthew 18:19,20
