RECOGNIZE HIS POWER
“Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10.
Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A month has passed. As we enter this new month, let us look back and analyze what all we have last in the previous days and what is the reason for losing them? Main reasons would be – anger?, impatience? No proper planning? and etc.,.
Two of the most difficult words to hear as a child are “be still.” Everything in us wants to stay in motion physically, mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually. These two words can be equally challenging for us as adults- especially in the midst of the seemingly immediate and urgent details of life. These words, “be still,” literally mean to let drop, to release, to relax. You might even be thinking, “How do I do that?”. Even when we put time aside to read our Bible in the morning/evening, we rush through it and check off that activity for the day.
The LORD gives us an assurance through this verse that when you and I are patient and wait on the Lord with true faith, then He would exalt us. We are being instructed in this verse to let go, to be quiet, and to be physically & mentally still. For most of us stillness, silence, and serenity are difficult to find. Even when we are able to find it externally, it can still be difficult to cultivate stillness internally. Life is busy and so are our minds!
It is not only tough to make the time to be still; it’s tough to create stillness in our mind and body. The idea of being still goes against what we naturally, and culturally, do. Our inclination is to step on the gas and full speeds ahead, believe that doing more and having more, makes us more complete. Instead, God is telling us here to hit the brakes and be still. If we are busy being busy, God’s voice can be nearly impossible to hear, but the problem is that many times we view being still with God as inactivity. It is critical to our faith to realize that the more we are deliberately still: the more we hear God’s voice, the better we recognize God’s activity, the smaller our issues seem, the bigger God appears, and the more we follow God’s divine purpose for us, instead of just our own agendas, ideas, and abilities.
Understanding will never bring you peace. That’s why He has instructed us to trust in Him, not in our understanding. Human beings have a voracious appetite for trying to figure things out in order to gain a sense of mastery over their lives. But the world presents us with an endless series of problems. As soon as we master one set, another pops up to challenge us. The relief we had anticipated is short-lived. Soon our mind is gearing up again: searching for understanding (mastery) instead of seeking our Master.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” says Proverbs 3:5-6. “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:1)
Trust the LORD by relinquishing control into His hands. Let go, and recognize that His God. “For His divine power has bestowed on us [absolutely] everything necessary for [a dynamic spiritual] life and godliness, through true and personal knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has bestowed on us His precious and magnificent promises [of inexpressible value], so that by them you may escape from the immoral freedom that is in the world because of disreputable desire, and become sharers of the divine nature.” 2 Peter 1:3-4
So how can you overcome the stress and strain of this world? – “Be Still!”. “The Lord will fight for you while you [only need to] keep silent and remain calm.” Said Moses in Exodus 14:14 about whom God complements, “Now the man Moses was very humble (gentle, kind, devoid of self-righteousness), more than any man who was on the face of the earth.”
So dear Brothers and Sisters, practice ‘patience’, practice to “be still” and practice to enjoy HIS PRESENCE EVERY MOMENT! Teach your children to practice patience. They will be successful in their life.
When was the last time you released the pressing issues in your life to God? When was the last time you relaxed in the presence of God? Can you set aside just a few minutes today to “be still” before God, and to listen for His voice? God be with you throughout this month and the days to come. God bless you.
Prayer; Lord, we live in a world which is so busy resulting in stress and strain. We fret and fuss over so many things. But I come to you with a open heart and you know me. So LORD teach and lead me to learn to be still and wait on the LORD. I am facing so many problems, but I leave everything into Thy mighty hands. In Jesus’ precious Name I pray. Amen.
