THE POWER OF CHRIST IN THE PROBLEMS OF LIFE – November 2017

THE POWER OF CHRIST IN THE PROBLEMS OF LIFE - November 2017

“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]” John 16:33

Greetings in the precious Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May the good LORD be with you throughout this month and bless you. May the LORD bless your bread and water and also remove sickness from among you. Exodus 23:25.

Our Lord Jesus Christ encourages us on this first day of the month saying, “In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world. The Father is with me. I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace” says Message Bible. I want you to turn with me in your New Testament to Mark’s Gospel chapter 5. I want to share with you three important situations in which the power of Christ is released in the whole chapter.

  1. The story of the deliverance of the demoniac of Gadara.

We read all about him in these first five verses, we read of his predicament and how the society tried to bind him, but no one could tame him. In verse 5 we read of how excessive and extreme his demonic possession was, and what it drove him to in self-harm, cutting himself, crying out in uncontrollable ways. But then there is a great change in verse 6, look at it: ‘But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him’. The first principle of releasing the power of Christ in the problems of life that I want to give you today is: we need to see Jesus. We need to see Jesus! The man himself was touched in his spirit by the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. This man was not filled with the Holy Spirit, but a man filled with evil spirit. But he came running to Jesus. That is the power of Christ! Think about that for a moment: did the revelation come to his mind, or did it come to his heart? I would like to suggest to you that, because this man’s mind was bound, the revelation didn’t come to his mind but came to his spirit, his human spirit.

Let me give you a biblical example of this. Do you remember when John the Baptist was in the womb of Elizabeth, his mother? Do you remember that Mary, her cousin, came into the presence of Elizabeth, and she was also with child of the Holy Spirit, our Lord Jesus Christ was in the womb of Mary? When the two mothers came together carrying their respective children, do you remember what happened? John the Baptist leapt in the womb of his mother, because he was in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. One can experience this power only when you see Jesus.

  1. The story of the woman with the issue of blood

The second principle, a very simple one to release the power of Christ in the problems of life, is found in verse 27. In verse 27 we read: She slipped in from behind and touched his robe. She was thinking to herself, “If I can put a finger on his robe, I can get well.” The moment she did it, the flow of blood dried up. She could feel the change and knew her plague was over and done with’. She heard about Him – here’s your second principle: we need to hear about Jesus to be helped in the problems of life. And she hasn’t seen Jesus before, but simply believed what she heard! Verse 30 says, “Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from Him” Are you touching Jesus every day?

Now of course we believe that God can supernaturally and miraculously touch anyone, God is able to heal – but what we often overlook is that there is actually a healing power in the Words of God that we read in Scripture. You see, what happens is: our spirit, where God meets us, is infused by the power of the Word of God, it then influences our soul, our mind, our emotion and our will, and it actually outflows into our body to affect us.

  1. The story of Jairus’ daughter

Jairus’ daughter has fallen sick and now, because Jesus delayed in seeing to this woman with the issue of blood, the message is sent back in verse 35. They told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”  And in vs.36 we read: But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.” He spoke in the midst of what was an impossible situation, apparently, and said: ‘Be not afraid, only believe’. It’s an acceptance of the facts of our faith – but, as the old saints used to call it, it is to venture all upon Christ. It is to depend upon Him, it is to rest, and it is to lean the whole of your weight upon Him! That’s what Jesus was saying: ‘Don’t be afraid, but lean on Me, depend on Me, roll over those cares unto Me’.

As we walk through in this month, let us learn to 1. See Him; 2. Know Him and 3. Believe Him.

God bless you

Prayer: Lord thank you for this new month. Open my heart to Him – that I may not just receive the Word, but receive the releasing of the power of Christ in the problems of my life. For Christ’s glory alone, I pray, Amen.
